The Code of Ethics is a collection of laws in the world of Shin Sekai Yori. Although the laws are never properly listed, it is mentioned on several occasions. It is said to have so many volumes that it would overflow from the library of Waterwheel all the way to the Holy Barrier.

- The Code of Ethics prohibits the use of valuable electricity outside of the public hall, as it is needed to power the loudspeakers on its roof.
- It is strictly forbidden to purposely interfere with someone else's cantus. According to the code, if two canti were to come in contact with each other, a rainbow interference pattern would appear and space would become distorted, creating an extremely dangerous environment.
- There are strict rules in the Code of Ethics regarding sexual acts between boys and girls, almost to the point of being forbidden, whereas contact between two people of the same sex, is allowed, or even encouraged.
- According to the old Code of Ethics, a fetus was considered to have human rights at 22 weeks of age. That rule was created in regards to the period of time during which an abortion could be performed, but the new Code made it so that a child does not have human rights until their seventeenth birthday. This means that up until a child turns seventeen, the Board of Education has the power to order their disposal.
