The Rising Wind (風立ちぬ Kaze Tachinu) is the ninth episode of the Shin Sekai Yori anime series. It first aired in Japan, on November 24, 2012.
- Shun stops coming to school and his friends start looking for him, taking care to not raise any suspicions. Saki and Satoru set for the Pinewind Village where Shun lives, just to find the place isolated by the authorities and his house destroyed. Later at night, Saki confronts her parents about what really happened to the village but they refuse to tell her more than they can. Soon after Saki is visited by Maria who reveals that she and Mamoru learned that several Impure Cats are being maintained at the school and two were freed to hunt down Shun. Saki flees to warn him, just to come across one of the Impure Cats.
- The episode starts with a short monologue from Saki, where she mentions that Shun has not been visiting the class for five days.
- During some free time, the group of friends assembles to talk about Shun's disappearance. Satoru suggests that they need to go looking for and find Shun, no matter how it needs to be done. Maria and Mamoru question his motives, as they think his intention is to get a chance to make up with Shun, and tell him that they are sure he did not do it because of disliking him. Satoru, however, denies such an intention, and instead mentions that there are many questions they need to ask him - If they are really under surveillance, what he meant by saying they need to watch out for the cats and what made Shun act so strangely the day before. Mamoru then wonders if it is a good idea to act suspiciously, in case the surveillance is true, and Saki mentions that even the Monster Rats had used birds to keep them under their watch. In Satoru's eyes, this appears to be nonsense, but Maria shares Saki's opinion and backs it up by explaining that telekinesis can be used by powerful users to design and create animals just by using their imagination. Regardless, Satoru wants to look for Shun, and the others ultimately decide to come with him, since they care about their mutual friend. As a compromise, they split up, so no suspicion is raised by them searching for Shun as a whole group. For that matter, Satoru and Saki go to Shun's house, while Maria and Mamoru's mission is to ask around in school if anyone has usable information for them regarding Shun's current situation.
- Using a boat, Saki and Satoru head to the Pinewind Village, where Shun lives. Thinking of this place, Saki briefly remembers the first time she met Shun, but is soon woken from her memory by Satoru, who calls her attention to a boat in the middle of the Tone River. As soon as they pass it, they come to see that Pinewind is cordoned off.
