Going Home (家路 Ieji) is a main theme of the series, extracted from the second movement of Symphony No. 9 in E minor "From the New World", Op.95, B. 178 by Czech composer Antonín Dvořák. The series draws its title from the name of the symphony.

Every day just before sunset, the loudspeakers in Kamisu 66 play the same melody. It’s called “Going Home” and came from a part of a symphony written a long, long time ago by a composer with the name of Dvorak. When the song plays, all the children playing in the fields have to return home.[1]

The playing of Going Home involves one of the last vestiges of the Golden Age technology. The music is on a vinyl record. The turntable record player is run with electricity – generated by waterwheels – and the electrical output signal is fed through a public announcement system to loudspeakers spread throughout the town.

Though the symphony in the anime is without vocals, there are lyrics taught in school Harmony School.[1]

The sun sets over the distant mountains
Stars stud the sky
Today’s work is finished
My heart feels light
In the cool evening breeze
Come, gather around
Gather around

The bonfire burning brightly in the darkness
Now dies down
Sleep comes easily
Inviting me to disappear
Gently watching over us
Come, let us dream
Let us dream[1]

Going home, going home
I'm jus' going home
Quiet like, some still day
I'm jus' going home

It's not far, yes close by
Through an open door
Work all done, care laid by
Going to fear no more

Mother's there 'specting me
Father's waiting, too
Lots of folk gathered there
All the friends I knew

All the friends I knew

I'm going home

 Nothing lost, all's gain
 No more fret nor pain
No more stumbling on the way
No more longing for the day
 Going to roam no more

Morning star lights the way
Restless dream all done
Shadows gone, break of day
Real life yes begun

There's no break, aint no end
Jus' a livin' on
Wide awake with a smile
Going on and on

Going home, going home
I'm jus' going home
It's not far, yes close by
Through an open door
I'm jus' going home

Going home, going home[2]
