Karma Demon / Karmic Demon (業魔 Gouma) is one of the in-world creatures of Shin Sekai Yori. They make an appearance in the novel, manga and anime.
Description
- Karma Demons, known as cases of the so called "Hashimoto-Appelbaum syndrome" are Cantus users who have lost control over their abilities.
History
- "180 years ago, there was a boy who lived in a village. He was very intelligent, but he had one serious shortcoming. This flaw became apparent to everyone as he grew older. The boy was so proud of how smart he was. He thought everything was beneath him. He pretended to listen carelessly to the teaching of his school and his elders, but their important messages never reached his heart. Pride sows the seeds of karma. Loneliness became his only friend. No one else spoke to him. The seeds of karma took root in the soil of loneliness. It flourished and grew rampant on his thoughts. Unbeknownst to him, the young boys karma grew and grew. One day, he ceased to be human. He became a karmic demon. In the end, the karmic demon realized he mustn't be allowed to exist.
